Welcome to The BUILD Program!

Learning engineering in today’s world

This website is under development, and it is best enjoyed with your browser in full-page mode for now!

With the BUILD program you will be a full performance engineer upon graduation fully contributing on engineering teams.

What is The BUILD acronym?

We are changing how Engineering is taught. The BUILD program adds an exciting hands-on, team-oriented approach to supplement the theoretical and mathematical concepts in traditional engineering programs.

You hold design reviews and actually build things. You hold design reviews and improve them. You learn how to turn them into manufactured products. You graduate with four years of engineering experience.

If you enjoy building things, like to work on teams, and want to come out of school as a full performance engineer this program is for you.

If you don’t know where to start, dip your toe in at this summary, read about BUILD design reviews, and dive into your first BUILD class.

But if you can only read one thing, read about the mentors.

Some BUILD Program characteristics

The BUILD program doesn’t ask you to memorize things. Instead, we teach you how to figure out what you need, quickly develop a plan to apply what you need, and bring it to practice. Let other people blindly follow a list of step-by-step instructions. You are a highly intelligent being and we respect and grow that part of you.

In the BUILD program you work in teams with electrical, mechanical, software, chemical, and all engineers in the same classroom having to rely on each other - this is how engineering is done in the 21st century. You take what you’re learning, build it, and have it manufactured both here and overseas. You graduate as a full performance engineer with four years of experience.

The pictures on this website were created with the assistance of Artificial Intelligence (AI). The BUILD Program embraces the use of technology in the classroom. As an example, The BUILD Program does not consider the use of AI cheating, we consider its lack of use as foolish. Of course it needs be used with great care and caution and we use it prudently and productively.

What does it take to turn your idea into a reliable, ergonomic, user friendly manufacturable product? What are BUILD design reviews? The BUILD program supplements the theory and math and shows you how to be an engineer. Take a look at your very first BUILD class. Take a look at what you’re going to do in the four BUILD courses.

Some BUILD Program Philosophies

Science is like magic, only real.

Engineering is like science, only realistic.

Contemporary engineering is about

multidisciplinary teamwork.

There's no substitute for experience.

Except a really good training program.

What you can learn from passionate experts is amazing.

And Infectious.

What ‘s the difference between a teacher and a student?

The student thinks there’s a difference.

Let other people blindly follow step-by-step instructions. You are a highly intelligent being and we respect and grow that part of you.

Forget being a student. Be an engineer from day one.

Work with industry mentors and build stuff based on all that theory you’re learning and put it into manufacturing processes.

You’ll learn how to be an engineer. And you’ll build a pretty sweet 3D printer to keep and use throughout the rest of your classes.

Be a team leader and an even better member. And you’ll build a pretty sweet CNC to make things you are learning in other classes.

Use your engineering foundation and build a pretty sweet Pick and Place machine to automate making your prototypes.

Put into practice everything you’ve worked hard to learn and manufacture a real product as a full performance engineer. Graduate!!!

Master your field because by adopting the pillars of this program and position yourself as a world class technical expert.

Design reviews are an essential part of modern engineering. Work with experienced engineers to learn the practice and secrets of the trade.

Be excited about the material and you’re going to own it, not just learn it for the test and forget it. This program is different. It really is.

We bridge gaps: design/manufacturing; agile makerspace expertise/deep engineering expertise; generalist/deep technical expertise.
